19 Dec Joy to the World! The Lord has Come!
If I could summarize the message and importance of Christmas as briefly as possible, I would say: Joy to the Word, the Lord has Come!
Christmas is many things in American culture, but for Christians, it is this: Jesus, the Son of God, came to earth as a babe through the Virgin Birth, lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sin and was raised from the dead so that as we believe in Him, we too, when we die, can be raised from the dead to eternal life.
Joy, indeed!
This Christmas, I am using the Christmas lights I see in decorations to remind me of Jesus, the Light of the World, who came to show us the way to God, and to respond with joy.
Recently, it has become fashionable in our town for owners of impressive homes to lavishly decorate with Christmas lights. No one knows for sure how much they spend, but uninformed speculation is in the thousands, and perhaps tens of thousands of dollars.
I like it. I don’t know if those homeowners mean it when they put up Christmas lights. But I do. And whether or not they mean it (I hope they do), I use their lavish decorations to remind me that Jesus is the Light of the World, and if He had not come 2,000 years ago, no one would be putting up any lights.
So, let us take joy in the fact that putting up lights at Christmas originated with a desire to portray Jesus as the Light of the World, and we can celebrate each time we see the decorations.
Have a Merry Christmas!
And, thanks for your prayers as I am knee deep in preparations to launch a YouTube channel early in the New Year. I’ll keep you posted.
And if you’re new here, we just finished a series titled “Moving from Checkers to Chess ~ 5 Steps to Unleashing the Power of an Eternal Perspective,” in which I “connected all the dots” from posts over the years and combined them into a “spiritual game plan.” That series is a great place to start.
I look forward to seeing all of you on my new YouTube channel in 2024 to further discuss how to walk closer with God and live better in life.
