Let’s Cultivate Hope This Year
As a new year begins, it is a time when we typically renew hope… hope for a better year. And hope is no small thing.
- Pliny the Elder said, “Hope is the pillar that holds up the world.”
- Martin Luther wrote, “Everything that is done in the world is done by hope.”
- Albert Einstein said, “Learn from yesterday, live for today, and hope for tomorrow.”
Christian hope is powerful. C.S. Lewis said, “Hope is one of the theological virtues. This means that a continual looking forward to the eternal world is not, as some modern people think, a form of escapism or wishful thinking, but one of the things a Christian is meant to do.
“Love does not mean that we are to leave the present world as it is. If you read history, you will find that the Christians who did the most for the present world were just those who thought most of the next.
“It is since Christians have largely ceased to think of the other world that they have become so ineffective in this. Aim at heaven, and you get earth thrown in. Aim at earth and you get neither.”
So, we are on good ground if we hope for a better year ahead. Yet as Christians, we do not merely hope for better luck next year, but we put our hope in the belief that God will accomplish His will in us and through us, regardless of circumstances.
Update on the YouTube Channel
We are still putting together the myriad of details involved in starting the YouTube channel, “hoping” to launch in February, and we “hope” to see you then.
And as we’ve said, we appreciate your ongoing prayers as we continue to lay the foundation for moving from this blog to a YouTube channel. I’ll continue to keep you posted. If you’re not already on my email list, subscribe here so you don’t miss any updates – you’ll also receive my free video, Master the Bible So Well That the Bible Masters You.
In the meantime, while I’m getting the YouTube channel ready, all of the past blog posts are still available – and you know that “repetition is the key to mental ownership!”
And if you’re new here, we recently finished a series titled “Moving from Checkers to Chess ~ 5 Steps to Unleashing the Power of an Eternal Perspective,” in which I “connected all the dots” from posts over the years and combined them into a “spiritual game plan.” That series is a great place to start.
I look forward to seeing all of you on my new YouTube channel soon, to further discuss how to walk closer with God and live better in life.
Two resources I’ve created to help build your biblical base for a closer walk with God:
