SuperVerses: Five Mental Power-Moves

SuperVerses: Five Mental Power-Moves

MASTER THESE VERSES SO WELL THAT THEY BEGIN TO MASTER YOU

In last week’s blog post, I reviewed the principle in Romans 12:2, that in order for our lives to be transformed, our minds must be renewed. Mental renewal is the key to life transformation.

Then, I reviewed 5 mental power-moves necessary for life-transformation.

This week, I want to put Scripture passages to those 5 power-moves. Repetition is the key to mental ownership! The truth of those power-moves must go through our mind over and over if it is going to transform us, and Scripture memorization & meditation is key to that happening.

I have determined that I will not memorize any verses that I am not committed to keeping memorized by regular review. Why go to all the trouble of memorizing just to forget them?!? That means that, for me and I suspect for most people, the verses must be reviewed daily, or at least weekly.

Therefore, there is a practical limit to the number of verses a person can keep memorized. So we must choose our verses carefully. I have written before of SuperVerses. What I am proposing now is a list of SuperVerses to go with the five mental power-moves.

I believe it is essential to master these verses so well that they increasingly master us. In that way, the Holy Spirit will accomplish the power-moves in our life, and give us spiritual transformation.

  1. From temporal to eternal

We must view life with an eternal perspective, not a temporal perspective, always living by heaven’s truth and rules, not earth’s.

SuperVerses:

Central Verses: Colossians 3:1-4 ~ If then you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.

Additional Optional Verses:

James 1:2-4

Romans 8:18

2 Corinthians 4:16-28

2.  From the American Dream to spiritual warfare

Life is not a playground, it is a battlefield. To live life effectively we must abandon the Christian American Dream, and enter the battle that God calls each of us to.

SuperVerse:

Ephesians 6:12 ~ For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Additional Optional Verses:

James 4:7

1 Peter 5:8

2 Corinthians 10:3-5

3. From self to others

God has called us to be Three Musketeers, not Lone Rangers. He intends us to love others as He has loved us.

SuperVerses:

Matthew 22:37-39 ~ You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.  This is the great and foremost commandment.  The second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

Additional Optional Verses:

Luke 6:31

1 Corinthians 13:4-8a

Philippians 2:3-4

4. From control to submission

It is natural to want to control people and circumstances to go our way. We may even attempt to control God, by whining, or throwing temper-tantrums, sulking, or by trying to become so “good” and “religious” that God will have to bless us because we are so righteous. Life will not work with this perspective, and we must move from trying to control God to being submissive to Him.

SuperVerses:

Romans 12:1-2 ~ Therefore, I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

Additional Optional Verses:

Proverbs 3:5-6

Galatians 2:20

John 14:15

5. From performance to rest.

We may feel that we have to earn God’s approval, and as a result are always trying to do things to please Him so that He will be happy with us and bless us. We must rest in His love and acceptance, and enter the peace and joy that is the birthright of those who are adopted into God’s family.

SuperVerses:

Matthew 11:28-30 ~ Come unto me, all you who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and lowly, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30

Additional Optional Verses:

Psalm 46:10

Psalm 103:13-14

Philippians 4:6-7

Conclusion

As I said last week, as we make these five mental power-moves, changing our spiritual perspective, we can find ourselves getting freer and freer in our relationship with God and others, capable of more peace and joy, capable of greater meaning and satisfaction, and capable of greater impact in others’ lives.

Memorizing these passages and keeping them memorized, reviewing them daily or at least weekly, will allow the Holy Spirit to transform our lives as our minds are renewed.
