About
Hi, I’m Max Anders.
For more than forty years, I've been helping Christians understand the Bible, think biblically, and grow into mature followers of Christ. I taught on the college and seminary level for nearly 20 years and am a veteran pastor.
I'm the author of over 25 books, including the bestselling 30 Days to Understanding the Bible and Brave New Discipleship. I am also the creator and general editor of the 32-volume Holman Bible Commentary Series, as well as my self-published video-based, basic discipleship curriculum entitled The Brave New Discipleship System, based on the ministry principles I outlined in the book, Brave New Discipleship.
My passion today is helping Christian parents and students think biblically, live wisely, and develop a resilient faith—to avoid being captured by modern culture.
Mission
Every moment of every day something in our soul is being fed and something is being starved. Because we live in a fallen world, the natural course of events feeds the world’s values into our soul and starves the Spirit’s values.
Fed largely by the presence, power and corruption of modern media, Christians are in danger of being swept out to sea by the rip-tide of modern culture, and we're seeing an alarming and heartbreaking number of young people walk away from their faith upon graduating from school and leaving home.
Our challenge therefore is to power-feed the things of the Spirit sufficiently to offset the pull of the world. This is important, not only for adults, but particularly important when students are forming their worldview and the values that will guide them the rest of their lives.
We cannot avoid the pull of the world. We can only offset it.
My mission is to help interested Christians guide and accelerate their spiritual growth to become all that God intends them to be and to make their potential impact, including their impact on their children and grandchildren, helping them to think biblically, live wisely, and develop a resilient faith that stands firm in a culture that is constantly pulling them in the opposite direction.
To that end, in addition to my other writings, I am creating resources to help Christian adults in their own spiritual growth as well as resources to help in the discipleship of their children.
I'd love to have you join the cause!
My Biography
A graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary, I have taught on the college and seminary level, was an original team member with Walk Thru the Bible Ministries and am the author of over twenty-five books, including the bestselling 30 Days to Understanding the Bible, and was creator and general editor of the thirty-two volume Holman Bible Commentary. I have pastored small, medium and large churches spanning over 30 years, until recently retiring from the pastorate, and am now devoting full time to creating discipleship resources.
My Family
I have been married to my childhood sweetheart, Margie, for over 55 years. Our daughter and son are both married and we have two delightful grandchildren. We live just outside of Indianapolis, Indiana, my home state.
I enjoy reading, cooking, fantasizing about playing golf skillfully (which I actually play very poorly), and I especially love teaching God's Word and hanging out with family and friends. I played basketball at Grace College, and on a warm summer evening, I still might be seen in my driveway, shooting hoops.
